Immediately after Kalam Kun, i.e. on Thursday Chuvashs drive away all illnesse and malicious evils, that have brought these illnesses. South Chuvashs call this rite Seren and North Chuvashs call it Virem or Virmy. In the evening of Thursday boys and seniors with a number of sticks meet, sometimes they even have rattles. In order to drive away Seren they go through the village (it is called Seren havalama). They elect main men: a chairman, a judge, a foreman... Everybody of them has his own duties. A foreman notifies families if they are asleep already and wakes them up. One of them picks up eggs and cookies (they take something in every house). Others look after the foreman, because they don't want to let him take eggs, especially when there are a lot of them.. Then they divide eggs according to their duties. They come in houses, lash all members of the family and cry:
Seren! Seren!
Let all illnesses and deseases leave us!
With the noise and cry they lash walls, ceilings and doors of the house, driving away illnesses and malicious evils. Families give them beer and vodka to drink. When they are done with the whole village they go to the outskirts of the village and one of senior men rolls a cookie and an egg, saying the following words.
Let all illnesses and diseases leave us.
We implement the exile of Seren,
Let all evils leave us.
The rest of cookies they to poor men, as a rule to the herdsman. (Ulhash).
North Chuvashs use the same way to drive away malicious evils. While lashing they cry:
Virem! Virem!
Let all illnesses and diseaes leave us.
We celebrate Virem!
When they enter the house they drive away malicious evils: they run, jump and lash the walls. When they are done with the whole village they come in one house to cook and eat eggs. Then they take egg shell and an egg to the river and throw them out the water with the following words:
Mother Virem, treat yourself!
They also throw out lashes and rattles. (Vompukassi ).
